Portland ARCHICAD User Group — October 13th, 2015

Attention Portland Area ARCHICAD users!

ARCHICAD 19 User GroupWHAT? An ARCHICAD User Group in Portland, Oregon? You bet! Jesse Gallanar and I are driving down from Seattle to spread ARCHICAD magic south of the Columbia River. Monte Chapin from GRAPHISOFT North America will also be joining us. I’m really excited about this event. It’s stop three on my unofficial Fall 2015 ARCHICAD User Group Roadshow-stops one and two being Minneapolis and Seattle. If you are in the Portland area you’ll definitely want to attend. Not only will this be a great chance to learn about ARCHICAD and connect with other users, it’s also an opportunity to support something big for our community. If we can draw a large crowd and show GRAPHISOFT that shuttling experts around the country to run user groups is a wonderful idea, perhaps it’ll happen again and again. On a local level, I’m hopeful that this will be the start of Jesse and I making a habit of visiting Portland together. But extrapolating out a bit, maybe in 2016 I can run user groups in other great western locations. Or other USA based gurus can be sent around to energize local communities near them. I know I’m not the only one who thinks that’d be a fantastic idea.

Topics:

Whatever I want them to be! We are going to talk about my favorite parts of ARCHICAD 18 and 19. Why ARCHICAD 18 as well as 19? Well sometimes we don’t discover the best parts of a version until it’s been eclipsed by a newer iteration. So I want to talk about the bits of both of them that I love. Of course as anyone who’s ever been to a user group that I’ve run knows, lengthy lectures aren’t the goal. The official topic is just the starting point. If we get sidetracked, that’s okay. What I want to see-and what I hope the topic will facilitate-is a two hour discussion about ARCHICAD that continues afterwards at a local bar. Sound good? Bring whatever you need: questions, a project, a printout, a gripe, a coworker, a friend, a disgruntled Revit user, a prospective user. I don’t care. I just want to get a big bunch of passionate ARCHICAD and BIM users together to talk about what’s important. You in? ALSO…if you have a question or topic you’d like to have discussed, please e-mail me ahead of time. I can’t promise we’ll cover it (especially if you ask about EcoDesigner STAR), but we’ll do our best.

As we always like to do, Jesse and I plan on having an after-party ARCHICAD nerdfest at a nearby bar. And I assume, as with the previous meetings hosted by Jesse, he will be feeding us. Please share this post and e-mail it to all your coworkers. I know not everyone gets the official e-mails about user groups-especially new and/or quieter employees.

sounds like a good time. I’d love to do more with user groups, or have other people come visit (and drum up attendance) for our local user group!
