Happy Holidays, Guest Bloggers, Seattle and an eventful 2014

Shoegnome is moving again

I’m moving again. At the end of January and the beginning of February (2014) my wife, daughters and I will be heading to Seattle, Washington. I’m not sure if this time it’ll again be for only a few months (like our two Boston adventures), or if it’ll be for much, much longer. I have a hunch, and hopes, that it’ll be the latter. I’ll share more details as I know them. But in short: do you live in Seattle or the Pacific Northwest? It’s time to connect, meet up, and help move BIM and the profession of architecture forward however we can. It’s time.

Calling all Guest Bloggers:

While I’m in transition, I want another plethora of guest bloggers. Last time was a huge success. I love having guest bloggers, and from the responses I get, you all enjoy them too. To get your mind going on topics I’d love to see written about:

  • Stories about your transition to BIM.
  • Stories about why you love BIM, and why others need to move farther down the BIM continuum.
  • A passionate article on why going to BIM is a dumb move and why you’ll never do it.
  • Comparisons between architectural software.
  • Anything to do with ArchiCAD.
  • Struggles with getting licensed as an architect.
  • Thoughts on having all the right experience and education to get licensed, but not working for an architect, thus making it impossible for you to get licensed unless you change jobs and wait a few more year.
  • Thoughts on only being licensed outside of the jurisdiction you work in (ei, a foreign architect working in the USA, or some similar situation).
  • Something about the relationship between Architects and Technology.
  • Thoughts on the future of Architects, Architecture, and the Built Environment.
  • Generational issues as they relate to practicing architecture.
  • Anything else you think about after reading something on Shoegnome.

A Few Final Thoughts for 2013:

I’m going to try to make this my last post for 2013. Starting Christmas Eve, my daughters are on vacation from school until January 2nd, and I’ve got a lot to do regarding my move and enjoying the holidays with family. I usually fail to not post, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is only the penultimate post for 2013. But I’ll try. Thank you all for helping me make 2013 a great year for Shoegnome. I’ll probably write a 2013 recap post in January 2014 when I hit 500 posts, and 1000+ followers in the various social media outlets. That will definitely happen in January 2014. After all, this is post 495, and Twitter and YouTube are at 970 and 952 followers, respectively. Facebook has fallen to third place with 918. What’s wrong with you Facebook???? At least it’s better than my Google+ Page. Ouch.

While you are all thinking about what guest post you’ll write for me (by the way, e-mail me when you are ready), is there anything you’d like ME to write about in 2014? I have my own grand plans, but I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. You can also tell me what not to write about. But I doubt I’ll listen.

Whether you want to guest blog for me or not, the RSS feed is a great way to never miss anything. If you’re a fan of Shoegnome, take a moment and review the site on Alexa.com. Thanks!

    Jared,

I genuinely welcome you to the Northwest! Hope your transition has been smooth and I really look forward to meeting you again (we briefly meet at the ArchiCAD conference in San Diego).
