IFC and the Tower of Babel

Quaint, sad, and yet hopefully. The first IFC promotional video from 1994. A big thanks to Stephen Hamil for finding this and sharing it on Youtube. I have a feeling I’ll be talking a lot more about IFC and OpenBIM this fall. It’s WAY more important than you think. Even if you already think it is important. Stay tuned.

Oh and isn’t the Tower of Babel just a killer analogy for how we work, and the need for OpenBIM? I’m definitely going to start using the Tower of Babel more in my writing.

I think the short coming is that industry professionals have not and can not keep up with the development of new technologies. The idea of open BIM is universally accepted, the idea of adopting new company standards and workflow within an office could not be more strongly rejected in my experience.

    Parick, spot on.

Nothing much to add … except maybe that the openBIM is slower to penetrate thanks also to the active resistance from a company whose name begins with A and who has been giving away licenses of the BIM authoring package they bought in 2002 with the upgrades of their well known 2D drafting package.
